26 LC 129 0769 House Resolution 1163 By: Representatives Buckner of the 137th, Hugley of the 141st, Reese of the 140th, Burnough of the 77th, Taylor of the 92nd, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing February 3, 2026, as Girl Scout Day at the state capitol and commending Girl1 Scouts as a national leader in providing the best leadership development experience in the2 world to American girls; and for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, more than a century ago, native Savannahian Juliette Gordon Low started the4 movement known as Girl Scouts. Beginning with the first gathering of 18 girls in Savannah5 on March 12, 1912, Juliette broke the conventions of the time b y reaching across class,6 cultural, and ethnic boundaries to ensure that all girls, including those with disabilities, had7 a place to grow and develop their talents and leadership skills; and8 WHEREAS, the life mission of Juliette Gordon Low was to build g irls of courage,9 confidence, and character; and10 WHEREAS, the Girl Scout Leadership Experience encourages girls to develop a strong sense11 of self, connect to their communities both locally and globally, and feel empowered to make12 a difference in the world; and13 H. R. 1163 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0769 WHEREAS, Girl Scouts offers hands-on, girl-led, and girl-centered learning in STEM, the14 outdoors, and entrepreneurship and provides abundant opportunit ies to help girls develop15 invaluable life skills; and16 WHEREAS, the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor a Girl Sc out can earn,17 acknowledges each recipient's power and dedication to not only bettering herself but also to18 making the world a better place for others; and19 WHEREAS, more than 59 million American women are Girl Scout alumnae, and 2.6 million20 girls and adult volunteers are active members; and21 WHEREAS, the movement started by Juliette Gordon Low now reaches every corner of the22 world with Girl Scouts living throughout the United States, its territories, and in more than23 90 countries across the globe; and24 WHEREAS, today, the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia and Greater Atlanta Councils serve25 approximately 43,000 Girl Scout members in the State of Georgia.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body recognize February 3, 2026, as Girl Scout Day at the state capitol28 and commend the Girl Scouts as a national leader in developing girls of courage, confidence,29 and character.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the32 public and the press.33 H.
