26 LC 129 0698 House Resolution 1175 By: Representatives Gambill of the 15th, O’Steen of the 169th, Hawkins of the 27th, Efstration of the 104th, and Cooper of the 45th A RESOLUTION Recognizing February 7-14, 2026, as Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week at the state1 capitol; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, congenital heart defects are one of the most frequently occurring birth defects3 and a leading cause of deaths related to birth defects worldwide; and 4 WHEREAS, over one million families across America face the challenges and hardships of5 raising children with congenital heart defects; each year, appr oximately 40,000 babies are6 born in the United States with these condition; and7 WHEREAS, some congenital heart defects are not diagnosed until months or years after8 birth; when these conditions go undiagnosed, they can cause many cases of sudden cardiac9 death in young athletes; and 10 WHEREAS, despite these alarming statistics, newborns and young athletes are still not11 regularly screened for congenital heart defects; and 12 WHEREAS, Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week provides an opportunity for families13 whose lives have been affected by congenital heart defects to c elebrate life, remember the14 H. R. 1175 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0698 loved ones they have lost, honor dedicated health care professionals, and share information15 with the public and the media.16 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that17 the members of this body recognize February 7-14, 2026, as Cong enital Heart Defect18 Awareness Week at the state capitol.19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized20 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to21 Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and its Kids at Heart program.22 H.
