26 LC 129 0832 House Resolution 1166 By: Representatives Carter of the 93rd, Paris of the 142nd, Beckles of the 96th, Scott of the 76th, Davis of the 87th, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing Friday, February 6, 2026, as National Wear Red Day; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among women in the United2 States, claiming the lives of one in every three women each year and surpassing all forms of3 cancer combined; and4 WHEREAS, nearly half of all women over the age of 20 are living with som e form of5 cardiovascular disease, yet most women remain unaware of their personal risk factors or the6 unique ways heart disease can present in women; and7 WHEREAS, women often experience heart attack symptoms that differ from men—such as8 shortness of breath, nausea, back or jaw pain, extreme fatigue, or dizziness—which can lead9 to delayed treatment and poorer outcomes when these symptoms are not recognized; and10 WHEREAS, significant disparities persist, with Black, Hispanic/ Latina, and Indigenous11 women facing higher rates of cardiovascular disease and barriers to prevention, diagnosis,12 and equitable access to care; and13 H. R. 1166 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0832 WHEREAS, stroke is also a major threat to women’s health, as women are more likely than14 men to experience a stroke, more likely to die from one, and more likely to suffer long-term15 disability; and16 WHEREAS, research shows that women are less likely to receive bystander CPR during a17 cardiac emergency, in part due to fears and misconceptions that must be addressed through18 community-wide education and awareness; and19 WHEREAS, for more than two decades, the American Heart Associat ion’s Go Red for20 Women movement has led the charge in educating women about card iovascular disease,21 advancing scientific research, advocating for equitable healthcare, and empowering women22 to take charge of their heart health; and23 WHEREAS, National Wear Red Day, observed on the first Friday of February, brings24 communities together to raise awareness, spark meaningful conve rsations about women’s25 heart and brain health, and inspire lifesaving action.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body recognize Friday, February 6, 2026, as National Wear Red Day,28 and encourage all residents of the State of Georgia to learn the signs and symptoms of heart29 disease and stroke in women; support prevention and early detection; and join the effort to30 improve women’s cardiovascular health through awareness, education, and action.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized32 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the33 public and the press.34 H.
