A RESOLUTION
Recognizing March 2, 2026, as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Day at the State1
Capitol; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, was founded at Howard University3
in Washington, D.C., on January 15, 1908, and has the distinction of being the first sorority4
established by African American college women for African American college women; and5
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. has expanded to more t han 1,115 chapters6
world-wide, with Georgia serving as host to approximately 70 of those chapters on college7
and university campuses as well as numerous active alumnae communities around the state8
with over 10,672 active Georgia Members; and9
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. is committed to commun ity service and10
actively contributes to the educational, civic, health, and soc ioeconomic life of Georgia's11
citizens; and12
WHEREAS, all chapters are encouraging their members to become i nvolved community13
volunteers and community advocates, and their primary service c omponents include14

Empower our Families, Build Our Economic Wealth, Enhance Our Environment, Advocate15
for Social Justice, and Uplift our Local Community; and16
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Day at the State Capit ol is an international17
program developed for members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc . to meet with their18
legislators and to discuss issues that are pertinent to strengthening families and communities;19
and20
WHEREAS, at the direction of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.'s International President21
Mrs. Danette Reed; South Atlantic Region Director the Honorable Tiffany Moore Russell22
Esq.; South Atlantic Region Representative of the International Connection and Social23
Action Committee Ms.Cassandra K. Ward, Esq.; the Georgia Connection and Social Action24
Coordinator Mrs. Myesha Good; Alpha Kappa Alpha Day at the capitol Chairmen Sydney25
Jakes and Akear Mewborn; and Georgia Connection and Social Acti on liaisons the26
Honorable House Minority Leader Carolyn Hugley, the Honorable Dar'shun Kendrick, the27
Honorable Inga Willis and the Honorable Anissa Jones have convened this delegation for the28
purpose of civic engagement and community involvement, exemplif ying the theme29
"SOARing to the Midterms: Voting for Change!"30
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that31
the members of this body recognize March 2, 2026, as Alpha Kapp a Alpha Sorority,32
Incorporated Day at the State Capitol.33
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized34
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the35
Honorable House Minority Leader Carolyn Hugley, the Honorable Dar'shun Kendrick, the36
