26 LC 129 0699 House Resolution 1184 By: Representatives Ali of the 106th, Adeyina of the 110th, Beckles of the 96th, Holly of the 116th, Bazemore of the 69th, and others A RESOLUTION Commending the Jamaica/Caribbean Diaspora for their extraordinary humanitarian response1 and valiant efforts to provide disaster relief to residents of Jamaica following the landfall of2 Hurricane Melissa on October 28, 2025; and for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, Hurricane Melissa made landfall on the island of Jamaica on October 28, 2025,4 leaving widespread devastation, displacement, and urgent humani tarian needs across5 numerous communities; and6 WHEREAS, in the immediate aftermath of this natural disaster, m embers of the7 Jamaica/Caribbean Diaspora in Georgia mobilized with remarkable speed, unity, and8 compassion to provide essential relief, resources, and hope to the people of Jamaica; and9 WHEREAS, these selfless efforts demonstrated the enduring bonds between the diaspora and10 their homeland, reflecting a deep commitment to service, resili ence, and collective11 responsibility; and12 WHEREAS, the following organizations, community leaders, busine sses, faith-based13 institutions, and volunteers played an instrumental role in org anizing, collecting,14 transporting, and distributing critical aid, including food, me dical supplies, clothing, and15 H. R. 1184 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0699 other necessities: Caribbean Georgia Vote; Donna Mcleod; Atlant a Jamaica Association;16 Caribbean International Shipping Services; Joint Health Outreac h International; Mikey17 Sparkle Production; Jamaican Museum and Culutral Center, Inc.; Jamaica International18 Independence Foreign Song Competition; Teamwork; Grocery List; Lasco Chin Foundation;19 St. Hugh’s High School Alumnae Association- Atlanta Chapter; FIWI FEMA; Food for the20 Poor; Office of the Consul General, Oliver Mair; Smart Girls Rebuild; Help for Healthcare21 Professionals; APAP Media; JESA; Atlanta Montego Bay Sister Cities; St. Andrew Old Girls22 Association- Georgia Chapter; The Westmorelite Foundation; D. T errence Foster23 Foundation; Purposeful Women; 876 Kids Foundation, Inc.; Jamaica Mission Impact Team;24 Clarendon College Past Student Association- Atlanta Chapter; Integrity Children’s Funds;25 Bussin Jerk ATL; Jollywood; Network to Empower; and Live Oak Financial Center; and26 WHEREAS, these organizations, along with countless volunteers and supporters, established27 numerous donation and drop-off locations throughout Georgia, en suring accessibility and28 broad community participation; and29 WHEREAS, their collective actions exemplify the highest ideals of humanitarian service,30 civic leadership, and cultural pride, serving as a powerful example of what can be achieved31 when communities unite in times of crisis.32 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that33 the members of this body commend and honor the Jamaica/Caribbea n Diaspora for their34 outstanding generosity, leadership, and unwavering commitment t o aiding the people of35 Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa.36 H. R. 1184 - 2 - 26 LC 129 0699 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized37 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the38 appropriate representatives of the Jamaica/Caribbean Diaspora.39 H.
