26 LC 129 0846 Senate Resolution 670 By: Senators Williams of the 25th, Anderson of the 24th, Goodman of the 8th, Watson of the 11th, Dixon of the 45th and others A RESOLUTION Congratulating Cornelius "Tobey" McDowell upon being named the 2025 Georgia Logger1 of the Year; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Georgia's logging community sits at the heart of what makes Georgia the3 number one Forestry State in the nation; and4 WHEREAS, across the state, more than 1,200 logging businesses support roughly 5,400 jobs,5 and loggers are a critical link in the forestry supply chain that connects landowners to mills,6 manufacturers, and the products Georgians use every day; and7 WHEREAS, Cornelius "Tobey" McDowell, owner of C. McDowell Loggi ng in Jackson,8 Georgia, was selected as the 2025 Georgia Logger of the Year by the Georgia Forestry9 Association (GFA) and the Southeastern Wood Producers Association (SWPA); and 10 WHEREAS, at C. McDowell Logging, he has built a culture that emphasizes consistency,11 safe habits, accountability, and respect for the people doing t he work as well as the12 landowners and the land itself; and 13 S. R. 670 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0846 WHEREAS, beyond the day-to-day demands of logging, Tobey has be come a respected14 voice for the industry, having advocated under the Gold Dome on i s s u e s i m p o r t a n t t o15 Georgia's forest economy and speaking up for practical policies that support the working16 people who keep the forestry supply chain moving; and17 WHEREAS, this prestigious award also highlights his long-standi ng service through18 CrossOver Ministries in Jackson, Georgia, and notes that his faith and commitment to service19 are central to who he is as a husband, father, employer, and community member; and20 WHEREAS, in addition to being named Georgia's Logger of the Yea r, Tobey has been21 selected by the Forest Resources Association (FRA) as the Southeastern Logger of the Year22 and will be recognized in Auburn, Alabama, in March 2026, where he will have the23 opportunity to compete against top loggers from across the United States for FRA's National24 Logger of the Year; and25 WHEREAS, Cornelius "Tobey" McDowell is a person of magnanimous strengths with an26 unimpeachable reputation for hard work, integrity, and professionalism; and 27 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this outstand ing Georgian be28 appropriately honored.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body30 congratulate Cornelius "Tobey" McDowell upon being named the 2025 Georgia Logger of31 the Year and extend sincere best wishes for continued health, happiness, and success.32 S.
