26 LC 129 0812 Senate Resolution 678 By: Senators Jones of the 10th, Jackson of the 41st, Kemp of th e 38th, Wicks of the 34th, Mangham of the 55th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Dr. Mauricio Gonzalez, Ph.D.; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Dr. Mauricio Gonzalez, Ph.D., has long been recognize d as a respected and 2 distinguished educator and scholar known for his expertise, pro fessionalism, and deep3 personal commitment to higher education; and4 WHEREAS, after selflessly serving with the United States Army f rom 1966-1969, he5 completed his education, earning his undergraduate degree at th e University of Texas at6 Arlington, his master's degree at the University of the Americas in Puebla, Mexico, and his7 Ph.D. at Florida State University; and8 WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,9 talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced10 dramatically by his superlative service the University of North Florida, where he served for11 18 years as Vice President of Student and International Affairs, as well as his combined 4112 year career at other educational institutes; and13 S. R. 678 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0812 WHEREAS, he has served on countless boards over the years, incl uding the Museum of14 Contemporary Art Jacksonville, the city of Jacksonville’s Hispanic Council, and Girl Scouts15 of America; and16 WHEREAS, his outstanding leadership has been honored with many prestigious awards17 including the Robert Arleigh White Award for Art Advocacy from the Cultural Council of18 Greater Jacksonville as well as a Senior Fulbright Research Scholar Award; and19 WHEREAS, he was installed as a member of Phi Beta Delta Honor Society for International20 Scholars for achievements in the area of international education and exchange, and served21 as a member of the Discipline Advisory Committee for Fulbright Scholar awards, as well as,22 is a Field Reviewer at the Institute of Museum Services in Washington, D.C.; and23 WHEREAS, he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for24 integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and his vision and unyielding commitment to25 higher education will be sorely missed upon the occasion of his retirement.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27 recognize and commend Dr. Mauricio Gonzalez, Ph.D., for his efficient, effective, unselfish,28 and dedicated public service; congratulate him upon the grand occasion of his retirement; and29 extend the most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Dr. Mauricio32 Gonzalez, Ph.D.33 S.
