A RESOLUTION
Recognizing The Youth Civic Advisory Board; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, The Youth Civic Advisory Board (YCAB) was established by Dr. Jamelle2
McKenzie in partnership with veteran educator Eleanor Willis, w ho serves as Dean of3
Students, to elevate the voices of young people in College Park and ensure that youth4
perspectives are meaningfully incorporated into community decision-making; and5
WHEREAS, YCAB's foundation and continued success are strengthen ed through the6
leadership and guidance of Dean Willis, whose instruction and activities emphasize critical7
thinking, problem-solving, and public speaking; and8
WHEREAS, these skill-building experiences have empowered studen t leaders with the9
confidence and tools needed to thoughtfully approach, analyze, and advocate for local issues10
and community concerns; and11
WHEREAS, a central role of YCAB is to provide youth-centered in sight and12
recommendations to Dr. Jamelle McKenzie, ensuring that young people's perspectives help13
inform policy discussions, programming, and community priorities; and14

WHEREAS, this advisement relationship reinforces the values of listening to youth voices15
and intentionally integrating them into leadership and decision-making processes; and16
WHEREAS, YCAB board members engage in advocacy presentations be fore the City17
Council, community service initiatives, government related fiel d trips, and interactive18
workshops with elected officials and community leaders; and19
WHEREAS, these experiences help cultivate informed, engaged, an d socially conscious20
young leaders who are prepared to contribute thoughtfully to their community; and 21
WHEREAS, YCAB's current initiative focuses on addressing the unhoused in College Park22
through compassion, awareness, and action; and 23
WHEREAS, through this initiative, YCAB continues to model youth-led civic engagement24
rooted in empathy, service, and meaningful impact.25
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26
the members of this body recognize the Youth Civic Advisory Boa rd for its unwavering27
dedication to educating, empowering, and uplifting the voices young leaders.28
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized29
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to The30
Youth Civic Advisory Board.31
