26 LC 39 4895 House Resolution 1205 By: Representatives Berry of the 56 th, Cannon of the 58 th, Bell of the 75 th, Hugley of the 141st, Williams of the 168th, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing the Honorable "Able" Mable Thomas and dedicating an intersection in her1 honor; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, former State Representative "Able" Mable Thomas was a fearless activist and3 legislator whose life and legacy were deeply rooted in Atlanta's Vine City community, where4 she was born, raised, and later called to serve with unwavering dedication; and5 WHEREAS, shaped by Vine City's central role in Atlanta's civil rights history,6 Representative Thomas carried forward the neighborhood's tradit ion of resistance,7 organizing, and community leadership in her lifelong fight for racial justice, equity, and8 Black political empowerment; and9 WHEREAS, throughout her service in the Georgia House of Representatives, Representative10 Thomas remained firmly grounded in Vine City, using her platform to speak truth to power11 and advocate relentlessly for the residents and working families of her community; and12 WHEREAS, renaming this intersection in honor of Representative "Able" Mable Thomas13 permanently recognizes her profound impact on Vine City and Atl anta, ensuring that the14 H. R. 1205 - 1 - 26 LC 39 4895 legacy of a daughter of the community who became its champion i s etched into the very15 streets she fought to uplift; and16 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished17 Georgian be appropriately recognized by dedicating an intersection in her honor.18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL19 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the intersection of State Route 3 (US- 19/41) and State20 Route 8 (US-78/278) in Fulton County is dedicated as the State Representative "Able" Mable21 Thomas Intersection.22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and23 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the State Representative "Able"24 Mable Thomas Intersection.25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized26 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the27 Honorable "Able" Mable Thomas and to the Department of Transportation.28 H.
