26 LC 129 0819 House Resolution 1240 By: Representatives Au of the 50th, Tran of the 80th, Hong of the 103rd, and Park of the 107th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending The Georgia Asian Pacific American B ar Association; and1 for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, The Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association (GAPABA) was founded3 in 1993 by Prof. Natsu Saito, of the Georgia State University C ollege of Law, and Judge4 Alvin T. Wong, a judge of the DeKalb County State Court in Georgia, to establish a Georgia5 support network for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) attorneys and those6 interested in AAPI legal issues; and ; and7 WHEREAS, GAPABA was chartered as an official chapter of the Nat ional Asian Pacific8 American Bar Association on June 11, 1993, by 13 original charter members: Kenneth W.9 Brosnahan, Socheat Chea, Martin L. Chen, Thomas Y. Choi, Prof. Natsu Saito, Hon. Chung10 Hun Lee, Dr. Sai Hyun Lee, Hongli Ma, Renee Hom Neary, Christin a Pak, Hon. Alvin T.11 Wong, Raymond M. Wong, and Yongman Zhang; and12 WHEREAS, GAPABA represents and advocates the interests of AAPI, encourages and13 promotes the professional growth of AAPI lawyers and other memb ers of the legal14 profession, broadens professional opportunities for AAPI lawyer s and law students, and15 supports the entrance and advancement of AAPIs within the legal profession; and16 H. R. 1240 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0819 WHEREAS, The GAPABA Law Foundation (GLF) was organized in 2005 as the non-profit17 arm of GAPABA, with the mission of providing charitable and edu cational services for18 Georgia's AAPI legal community and has awarded over $350,000 to non-profit organizations19 to support legal internships, programs, and fellowships; and20 WHEREAS, The Trinh Huynh Fellowship, created with Asian America ns Advancing21 Justice-Atlanta, is a legal fellowship dedicated to litigation to benefit the AAPI community;22 and 23 WHEREAS, The Hemanth Digumarthi Public Interest Scholarship pro vides a source of24 funding for law students who accept unpaid summer internships w ith organizations that25 advance public interest causes.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body recognize and commend The Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar28 Association.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to The31 Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association.32 H.
