26 LC 129 0964 House Resolution 1252 By: Representative Mathiak of the 82nd A RESOLUTION Recognizing February 5, 2026, as Cancer Prevention Day at the capitol and commending the1 collaborative efforts of Georgia's cancer prevention, screening, and advocacy partners; and2 for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, cancer remains one of the leading causes of death in Georgia and continues to4 place a significant health and economic burden on the state, impacting individuals, families,5 and communities in every region of Georgia; and6 WHEREAS, many cancers can be prevented or detected early throug h evidence-based7 strategies including tobacco cessation, HPV vaccination, health y nutrition and physical8 activity, sun safety, and timely cancer screening; and9 WHEREAS, Cancer Prevention Day at the capitol provides an opportunity for policymakers10 to engage directly with community leaders, survivors, and experts working to reduce cancer11 risk and improve outcomes across Georgia; and12 WHEREAS, the Georgia House of Representatives has established the Cancer Care Access13 Study Committee to examine barriers to cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment,14 H. R. 1252 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0964 workforce capacity, and survivorship support across Georgia, pa rticularly in rural and15 underserved communities; and16 WHEREAS, Cancer Prevention Day at the capitol is convened throu gh the collaborative17 leadership of the Georgia Cancer Control Consortium, in partner ship with the Georgia18 Department of Public Health, Georgia CORE, the Regional Cancer Coalitions of Georgia,19 and numerous health systems, advocacy organizations, and community partners across the20 state; and21 WHEREAS, these partners work year-round to advance cancer preve ntion, promote22 screening and early detection, address disparities affecting ru ral and underserved23 communities, and support individuals across the cancer continuum from prevention through24 survivorship.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26 the members of this body recognize February 5, 2026, as Cancer Prevention Day at the27 capitol and commend the organizations, advocates, and individua ls working to prevent28 cancer and save lives in Georgia.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body encourage all Georgians to30 learn about the work of the Georgia Cancer Control Consortium, engage in evidence-based31 preventive health practices that reduce cancer risk, and keep up to date with recommended32 cancer screening.33 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized34 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the35 public and the press.36 H.
