26 LC 129 0893 House Resolution 1246 By: Representatives Baker of the 64th, Barnes of the 86th, Douglas of the 78th, McCollum of the 30th, and Ali of the 106th A RESOLUTION Recognizing of February as National Canned Food Month in the State of Georgia; and for1 other purposes.2 WHEREAS, February is nationally recognized as National Canned F ood Month, an3 observance established in 1987 to highlight the nutritional value, affordability, convenience,4 and extended shelf life of canned foods; and5 WHEREAS, canned foods serve as an important, accessible, and sh elf-stable source of6 nutrition for many individuals and families, including those experiencing food insecurity; and7 WHEREAS, the extended shelf life of canned foods makes them particularly well suited for8 donation to food banks and food pantries, especially during winter months when charitable9 food donations often decline; and10 WHEREAS, food banks, schools, faith-based organizations, local businesses, and community11 groups frequently organize voluntary canned food drives during this period to support12 community members in need.13 H. R. 1246 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0893 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that14 the members of this body recognize February as National Canned Food Month and15 encourage voluntary community participation in canned food driv es and other charitable16 hunger-relief efforts.17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized18 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the19 public and the press.20 H.
