26 LC 129 0925 Senate Resolution 707 By: Senators Burns of the 23rd, Rhett of the 33rd, Anavitarte o f the 31st, Anderson of the 43rd, Parkes of the 7th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Georgia State University; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Georgia State University, founded in 1913, is a premier R1 research university2 focused on academic excellence and career-readiness for more than 53,000 students; and3 WHEREAS, Georgia State University operates its flagship campus in downtown Atlanta4 with satellite campuses in DeKalb, Fulton, and Newton counties; and5 WHEREAS, Georgia State University has been ranked the nation's number one public6 university for excellence in undergraduate teaching by U.S. News & World Report for six7 consecutive years; and8 WHEREAS, Georgia State University has been ranked a top-five "Most Innovative" public9 university in the country by U.S. News & World Report for 11 consecutive years; and10 WHEREAS, Georgia State University is recognized as a national leader in student success11 and has, since 2003, raised its four- and six-year graduation rates by 20 percentage points;12 and13 S. R. 707 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0925 WHEREAS, Georgia State University is undergoing a bold campus transformation to create14 a vibrant, accessible and connected college town, linked by the 3.7-mile GSU Blue Line; and15 WHEREAS, Georgia State University has invested more than $1.88 billion in research over16 the past 10 years; and17 WHEREAS, construction of Georgia State University's new, nine-s tory, $100 million18 Research Tower is slated for completion in late spring 2026, further expanding its capacity19 for innovation and discovery; and20 WHEREAS, Georgia State University announced $6 million in fundi ng from Google to21 collaborate on the establishment of the new GSU AI Innovation L ab, expanding access to22 computer science and artificial intelligence education for stud ents in Atlanta and across23 Georgia; and24 WHEREAS, Georgia State University opened the new Student Success Center anchored in25 part by the National Institute for Student Success, consolidating a number of student services26 under one roof; and27 WHEREAS, Georgia State University Athletics posted a historic a cademic performance28 during the spring 2025 semester, achieving a record-breaking 3.38 cumulative GPA across29 all programs; and30 WHEREAS, Georgia State University's highly active research comm unity earned nearly31 $186 million in research funding in fiscal year 2024; and32 S. R. 707 - 2 - 26 LC 129 0925 WHEREAS, Georgia State University has a $3.2 billion annual economic impact on Georgia;33 and34 WHEREAS, Georgia State University has adopted a 10-year strateg ic plan, BluePrint to35 2033, focused on four pillars: Student Success 2.0; Identity, P lacemaking and Belonging;36 Innovating Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity; and Beyond College to Career; and37 WHEREAS, 16 of 20 initiatives set forth in the BluePrint to 2033 strategic plan are now in38 the implementation phase.39 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body40 recognize and commend Georgia State University for its all-around success in 2025 and the41 pride and prestige it brought to the students, faculty, staff, and alumni of Georgia State42 University.43 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed44 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to Georgia State45 University. 46 S.
