A RESOLUTION
Congratulating Chief Stone Mathis and Columbus Police Department for being named the1
Georgia Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates' Phyllis Goodwin Agency of the2
Year; and for other purposes.3
WHEREAS, the Columbus Police Department (CPD) has been named th e recipient of the4
Georgia Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates' Phyllis Goodwin Agency of the5
Year Award; and6
WHEREAS, this prestigious award recognizes a law enforcement agency that demonstrates7
strong leadership, progress, and commitment to professional excellence; and8
WHEREAS, CPD was selected for its recent work in reducing crime , increasing staffing,9
leadership development, and modernization; and10
WHEREAS, CPD has addressed challenges over the years through deliberate and strategic11
resets that focus on accountability, community policing, and ta king care of the men and12
women who risk their lives on behalf of the safety of the citizens of Georgia; and13

WHEREAS, in less than two years, CPD has reached full staffing, improved officer pay,14
boosted morale, and made major investments in technology includ ing implementation of15
Columbus' Real Time Crime Center, expanded camera and license p late reader programs,16
upgraded body-worn and in-car cameras, drone capabilities, and modernized records and17
dispatch systems; and18
WHEREAS, measurable results including a more than 30 percent drop in Part I crimes, a 2919
percent drop in violent crimes, and a case clearence rate that exceeds national average20
reflects CPD's commitment to excellence and progression; and 21
WHEREAS, CPD brings pride to its officers, leadership, and the citizens of Columbus,22
Georgia, with the honor of being named the Georgia Chapter of the FBI National Academy23
Associates' Phyllis Goodwin Agency of the Year Award.24
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that25
the members of this body congratulate Chief Stone Mathis and Columbus Police Department26
for being named the Georgia Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates' Phyllis27
Goodwin Agency of the Year.28
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized29
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the30
Columbus Police Department.31
