26 LC 129 0927 House Resolution 1273 By: Representatives Park of the 107th, Jackson of the 128th, Williams of the 168th, Jackson of the 68th, Howard of the 129th, and others A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of George and Sally Lauderdale; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Reverend George Seebert Lauderdale (1929-2017) and Sal ly Swan Burke2 Lauderdale (1928-2026) were united in marriage for 67 years, establishing a legacy of faith3 and service that reached from Jefferson County, Georgia, to the international mission field;4 and5 WHEREAS, a graduate of Erskine College and Seminary, Reverend G eorge Lauderdale6 dedicated his life to the ministry, serving as a founder and or iginal board member of the7 Christian Broadcasting Network and establishing a radio ministr y that broadcasted in the8 Philippines for over 40 years; and9 WHEREAS, Mrs. Sally Lauderdale, a native of the Zebina community and the first female10 editor of the Erskine Mirror, was a devoted educator and community leader who taught the11 adult Sunday school class at Ebenezer A.R. Presbyterian Church for a decade, concluding12 her final lesson at the age of 90; and13 H. R. 1273 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0927 WHEREAS, together they worked to further their faith through Reverend George's 30-year14 weekly column for the News and Farmer and his publication of WordSing, a translation of15 the Bible into rhyme and meter which Sally meticulously edited; and16 WHEREAS, the Lauderdales were known for their local impact in W rens and Jefferson17 County, where Sally served as President of the Louisville Garde n Club during the18 re-landscaping of the Courthouse and as a charter member of the Arts Guild of Jefferson19 County; and20 WHEREAS, their commitment to others was demonstrated by their h osting of a steady21 stream of missionaries and refugees in their home, and by provi ding a welcoming22 environment for families newly immigrated to Georgia; and23 WHEREAS, their global influence included more than 20 trips to the Holy Land and mission24 work in England, India, Korea, and China, embodying a life of s ervice that touched a25 multitude of lives across the world; and26 WHEREAS, they are survived by their three children, George Seebert Lauderdale Jr., Lois27 Ann Lauderdale Hopson, and David Burke Lauderdale, as well as t heir grandchildren and28 great-grandchildren, who remember them for their devotion to Jesus and their family.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that30 the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory o f George and Sally31 Lauderdale.32 H.
