26 LC 129 1004 Senate Resolution 720 By: Senators Orrock of the 36th, Wicks of the 34th, Setzler of the 37th, Kemp of the 38th, Halpern of the 39th and others A RESOLUTION Commending the Georgia Council on Aging and recognizing Wednesday, February 11, 2026,1 as Senior Day at the Capitol as part of Senior Week; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Aging (GCOA) is dedicated to serving elder Georgians3 by advocating on their behalf to enhance their quality of life; and4 WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Aging serves as a trusted voice for aging individuals5 and their families by educating, informing, and advising policy makers and the public on6 programs and policies that impact older adults throughout the State of Georgia; and7 WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Aging serves as an advisory body to the Governor, the8 General Assembly, the Georgia Department of Human Services, and other state agencies,9 ensuring that aging-related issues remain a priority in state government; and10 WHEREAS, through its advocacy efforts, the Georgia Council on A ging actively11 recommends legislation, presents testimony at public hearings, and trains advocates across12 the state to effectively engage in the policymaking process; and13 S. R. 720 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1004 WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Aging provides leadership to th e Coalition of14 Advocates for Georgia's Elderly (CO-AGE), fostering collaboration among organizations and15 individuals committed to strengthening the support system for Georgia's aging population;16 and17 WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Aging is hosting Senior Day at the Capitol on18 Wednesday, February 11, 2026, as part of Senior Week, providing an important opportunity19 for older Georgians and advocates to engage with state leaders and raise awareness of issues20 affecting seniors; and21 WHEREAS, the contributions of the Georgia Council on Aging have had a meaningful and22 lasting impact on the lives of Georgia's senior citizens and the policies that serve them.23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body24 commend the Georgia Council on Aging for its continued advocacy and service to elder25 Georgians and recognize February 11, 2026, as Senior Day at the Capitol in the State of26 Georgia.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed28 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to the Georgia29 Council on Aging.30 S.
