A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and memory of Sam R. Mayhan; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2
with the passing of Sam R. Mayhan at the age of 93; and3
WHEREAS, Sam R. Mayhan served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with4
the United States Army and Navy, valiantly and courageously pro tecting his fellow5
Americans from June 1959-January 1971, achieving the rank of Radioman First Class; and 6
WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Sam R. Mayhan was a lifelong, active member7
of his church and community; and8
WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern9
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his10
family and friends were admired by others; and11
WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation12
for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he13
made this world a better place in which to live; and14

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Sam R. Mayhan will long be remembered15
for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who had the great16
fortune of knowing him.17
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body18
join in honoring the life and memory of Sam R. Mayhan and express their deepest and most19
sincere regret at his passing.20
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed21
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of Sam22
R. Mayhan.23
