Senate Resolution 742

A RESOLUTION
Commending Ms. Janice Knight for her selfless acts and service to her community; and for1
other purposes.2
WHEREAS, Ms. Janice Knight of Morgan County, Georgia, retired after 34 years of service3
to her community, having worked for five years at the Universit y of Georgia Cooperative4
Extension Office and an impressive 29 years at Adult Protective Services with the Georgia5
Department of Human Services' Division of Aging Services; and6
WHEREAS, Ms. Knight retired in 2003, she then served as a caregiver for her mother and7
husband, who suffered from the rare autoimmune disease neuromye litis optica, and her8
research and advocacy for others with the same diagnosis led to Governor Kemp's9
Proclamation in March of 2020 for Neuromyelitis Optica Awareness Month; and10
WHEREAS, despite the tragic loss of her son and her only child in 2008 in a motorcycle11
accident, Ms. Knight continues to zealously serve her community , serving on the Walton12
EMC Operation Round Up Board, the Morgan County Senior Center Advisory Council as13
chairman, the Northeast Georgia Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council as secretary, and14
in a Jail ministry, Single Again ministry, and Family Ties for Grandparents Raising15
Grandchildren; and16

Board, the DFCS board, and the Guardian Angel State Task Force; and 18
WHEREAS, Ms. Knight continues to give back to her community by providing monetary19
donations to local charities, delivering meals to homebound seniors, providing books and a20
listening ear to comfort those having recently suffered a loss, and playing piano in her church21
and local nursing homes; and 22
WHEREAS, Ms. Knight has been selected as the 2026 Distinguished Older Georgian by the23
Georgia Council on Aging (GCOA) and is to be honored by the GCO A during the24
Distinguished Older Georgian ceremony at the state capitol on W ednesday, February 11,25
2026.26
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27
commend Ms. Janice Knight for her accomplishments, selfless acts, and longtime service to28
her community; congratulate her upon being selected as the 2026 Distinguished Older29
Georgian; and extend their sincere best wishes for her continued health and happiness.30
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Ms. Janice Knight.32
