26 LC 129 1031 House Resolution 1297 By: Representatives Santos of the 117th, Holly of the 116th, Lewis-Ward of the 115th, Kahaian of the 81st, Douglas of the 78th, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing the City of McDonough, Georgia, upon the first annual McDonough Day at the1 state capitol; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the City of McDonough, Georgia, was founded in 1823 and named for Naval3 Officer Commodore Thomas Macdonough; and 4 WHEREAS, since its incorporation, the City of McDonough has embodied the principles of5 local self-governance, civic engagement, and responsible stewar dship, reflecting the6 determination and vision of its citizens; and7 WHEREAS, McDonough is grounded in a rich history of commerce and transportation, as8 the city originated as a relay station on the New York City to New Orleans stagecoach line9 and was connected by other stage lines with Fayetteville and De catur, and with Macon by10 way of Jackson; and11 WHEREAS, with a population nearing 30,000, McDonough is located in Henry County,12 Georgia, and is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area; and13 H. R. 1297 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1031 WHEREAS, the success of the City of McDonough is due in large measure to the dedicated14 service of its mayor and city council, past and present, city staff, volunteers, business leaders,15 and engaged residents who have worked collectively to advance t he city's growth and16 prosperity; and17 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that McDonough Day is celebrated at the18 state capitol in acknowledgment of the outstanding government and community in the City19 of McDonough.20 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that21 the members of this body recognize the City of McDonough, Georgia, upon the first annual22 McDonough Day at the state capitol.23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House fo Representatives is authorized24 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the25 City of McDonough.26 H.
