26 LC 129 0937 Senate Resolution 730 By: Senators Kemp of the 38th, Sims of the 12th, Davenport of the 17th, Howard of the 35th, Wicks of the 34th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Meals on Wheels Atlanta for its 60 years of service to seniors1 and vulnerable individuals by addressing food insecurity, promo ting independence, and2 enhancing quality of life; and for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, Meals on Wheels Atlanta is a nationally recognized non profit organization4 dedicated to delivering nutritious meals and providing essential support services to seniors5 and homebound individuals who are unable to prepare their own meals; and6 WHEREAS, this organization serves 500,000 meals each year to nearly 1,100 seniors who7 face challenges such as limited mobility, chronic illness, disability, and financial insecurity;8 and9 WHEREAS, for six decades, Meals on Wheels Atlanta has not only addressed hunger and10 malnutrition but has also provided regular wellness checks, social interaction, and a critical11 safety net that helps reduce isolation among seniors; and12 WHEREAS, allowing access to consistent, healthy meals enables o lder adults to maintain13 their health, dignity, and independence while having the privil ege to age within their14 communities; and15 S. R. 730 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0937 WHEREAS, Meals on Wheels Atlanta relies heavily on the dedicati on of approximately16 1,200 volunteers, as well as community partners, and staff who selflessly give their time and17 resources to serve others with compassion and care; and18 WHEREAS, the organization plays a significant role in reducing healthcare costs by19 preventing hospitalizations and long-term institutional care through early intervention and20 social interaction; and21 WHEREAS, Meals on Wheels Atlanta exemplifies the values of serv ice, equity, and22 community responsibility by ensuring that no senior is left hungry or forgotten.23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body24 recognize and commend Meals on Wheels Atlanta for 60 years of o utstanding service and25 success as a pivotal force in assisting seniors and extend thei r most profound appreciation26 to the volunteers, staff, and supporters of Meals on Wheels Atl anta for their commitment,27 compassion, and invaluable contributions to the community.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed29 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Meals on Wheels30 Atlanta.31 S.
