HR1324: HR1324 Older Atlantans Day at the capitol; recognize

26 LC 129 1036 House Resolution 1324 By: Representatives Willis of the 55th, Schofield of the 63rd, and Crawford of the 89th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and honoring Older Atlantans Day at the capitol; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, older adults are vital contributors to the social, cul tural, civic, and economic2 strength of the City of Atlanta and the State of Georgia; and3 WHEREAS, Older Atlantans Day at the capitol provides an importa nt opportunity to4 recognize the achievements, wisdom, and ongoing leadership of Atlanta's senior population,5 while elevating the issues that most directly impact their quality of life; and6 WHEREAS, the Atlanta Commission on Aging serves as a vital advocate and resource for7 older adults, working to ensure that policies, programs, and se rvices reflect the needs and8 priorities of Atlanta's aging population; and9 WHEREAS, reliable and accessible transportation is essential fo r older adults to remain10 independent, connected to their communities, and able to access medical care, employment,11 and social engagement opportunities; and12 WHEREAS, ensuring the safety and security of older adults-both in their homes and in the13 community-is critical to preserving dignity, independence, and overall well-being; and14 H. R. 1324 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1036 WHEREAS, the availability of safe, affordable, and age-friendly housing is a growing15 concern as Atlanta's senior population increases, requiring tho ughtful planning and16 coordinated public and private investment; and17 WHEREAS, access to affordable, comprehensive healthcare-includi ng preventive care,18 mental health services, and prescription drug support-is fundam ental to healthy aging and19 improved outcomes for older adults; and20 WHEREAS, food insecurity continues to affect far too many seniors, underscoring the need21 for sustained efforts to expand access to nutritious meals and supportive services; and22 WHEREAS, addressing mental health needs and reducing social isolation among older adults23 are essential components of fostering healthy, resilient, and engaged communities; and24 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia recognizes the importance of supp orting policies and25 initiatives that allow older adults to age with dignity, indepe ndence, and choice in the26 communities they call home.27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that28 the members of this body recognize and honor Older Atlantans Day at the capitol.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the31 public and the press.32 H.
