26 LC 129 0831 Senate Resolution 745 By: Senators Brass of the 6th, Walker III of the 20th, Anavitarte of the 31st, Still of the 48th, Hodges of the 3rd and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Georgia's Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists; and for1 other purposes.2 WHEREAS, as early as 1916, Certified Registered Nurse Anestheti sts (CRNAs) were3 providing anesthesia at Grady Hospital in Atlanta; and4 WHEREAS, in 1938, 17 CRNAs established the Georgia Association of Nurse Anesthetists,5 which has grown to represent more than 1,600 members and is among the oldest and largest6 CRNA state organizations in the United States; and7 WHEREAS, CRNAs in Georgia practice in every setting where anest hesia services are8 needed, such as hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, endoscop y suites, the offices of9 doctors and dentists, and the VA Healthcare System; and10 WHEREAS, CRNAs in Georgia are committed to caring for Georgia citizens by providing11 vigilant, high-quality, cost-effective anesthesia services; and12 WHEREAS, CRNAs provide many levels of anesthesia and perioperat ive care, including13 sedation, IV sedation, general anesthesia, and pain management; and14 S. R. 745 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0831 WHEREAS, CRNAs are anesthesia professionals who safely administ er more than 5015 million anesthetics to patients each year in the United States, and as advanced practice16 registered nurses, CRNAs are among the nation's most trusted professions; and17 WHEREAS, CRNAs represent more than 80 percent of the anesthesia providers in rural18 counties, and many rural hospitals often rely on independently practicing CRNAs for19 anesthesia care; and20 WHEREAS, half of all rural hospitals in the United States use a CRNA-only model for21 obstetric care, and CRNAs safely deliver pain management care, particularly where there are22 no physician providers available, saving patients long drives of 75 miles or more; and23 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that these outstanding medical professionals24 be appropriately honored.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body26 recognize and commend Georgia's Certified Registered Nurse Anes thetists for their27 dedication to the health and well-being of the citizens of this state and extend best wishes for28 continued success.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed30 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the31 press.32 S.
