26 LC 129 1035 House Resolution 1322 By: Representatives Adeyina of the 110th, Kendrick of the 95th, Ali of the 106th, Beckles of the 96th, Carter of the 93rd, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing the Snellville Youth Council; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, the Snellville Youth Council (SYC), formerly known as the Snellville Youth2 Commission, was founded in 2016 by former Snellville Councilwom an Cristy Lenski to3 provide high school students with a structured pathway into civic life and local government;4 and5 WHEREAS, SYC serves as a formal connection between youth voices and city leadership,6 creating a consistent and intentional space for students to sha re ideas, offer feedback, and7 contribute to the community in meaningful and organized ways; and8 WHEREAS, SYC members gain an understanding of how municipal government operates,9 how public policy is shaped, and how community priorities are i dentified and addressed;10 students also develop essential professional competencies, incl uding public speaking,11 professional communication, teamwork, meeting protocol, project planning, and community12 engagement; and13 H. R. 1322 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1035 WHEREAS, through guided leadership development, hand-on researc h, and exposure to14 civic processes, SYC moves students beyond volunteering toward an understanding of how15 sustainable impact is created through planning, collaboration, and civic responsibility; and16 WHEREAS, a defining milestone in SYC’s legacy is the leadership and development of17 Unity Day, a student-led Juneteenth celebration founded to cent er Black culture within18 Snellville’s public civic space; and19 WHEREAS, SYC members have also participated in leadership and civic symposiums and20 intergovernmental discussions that broaden dialogue on race, equity, and youth leadership21 beyond the local level; and22 WHEREAS, the Snellville Youth Council is currently led by Esther Ndewa, Youth Director,23 alongside Daye Kebe, Student Mayor, and Abdulbasit Kolawole, Student Vice Mayor; and 24 WHEREAS, Advisory Board members include Richelle Brown, Natalya Bryant, Rodney25 Lumpkins, Vickie Mitchell, and Richard Varnell; and26 WHEREAS, the 2025-2026 Snellville Youth Council members include Magi Abdulwahab,27 Kanyin Akinwande, Daniella Amuzu, Hilina Assefa, Robel Ayele, Hebron Daniel, Joseph28 Daniel, Robel Daniel, Sophia Delatorre, Tsaijy Fils, Eden Giday , Jenrola Hazeez, Amira29 Hilowle, Daye Kebe, Jasmine Kitt, Abdulbasit Kolawole, Mya Lump kins, Drew Minus,30 Omolola Ogunjemilusi, Precious Oloyede, Chinelo Onwudinjor, Blessing Onyeanula, Amina31 Osman, Serenity Shaw, Laoki Siripanhya, David Thompson, Hieu Tran, Miranda Villegas,32 Abigail Wesane, Thomas Woudneh, Maisie Wreh, and Amy Zaraza; and33 H. R. 1322 - 2 - 26 LC 129 1035 WHEREAS, through continued civic education, service, and strate gic partnerships, SYC34 remains committed to ensuring that the City of Snellville conti nues to cultivate informed,35 engaged, and prepared future leaders.36 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that37 the members of this body recognize the Snellville Youth Council and extend best wishes for38 its continued growth and success.39 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized40 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the41 Snellville Youth Council.42 H.
