A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and memory of Dr. James Matthew Garrett; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, Dr. James Matthew Garrett, a native of Turner County a nd a devoted public2
servant, dedicated his life to enriching the lives of countless Georgians; and3
WHEREAS, a proud graduate of the University of Georgia, Dr. Jam es Matthew Garrett4
served in leadership roles with Dance Marathon, LeaderShape, and the Arch Society as well5
as advanced academic work promoting integrity development among college students,6
contributions that continue to shape student leadership programs within the university; and7
WHEREAS, he was a transformative force in the field of organiza tional development,8
leading strategic initiatives at Emory University and serving a s a Principal Partner at9
Deloitte, where he championed inclusive leadership development and systemic10
improvements in public health services across all levels of government; and11
WHEREAS, he further served as a lead volunteer for over two decades in leadership roles12
with the Human Rights Campaign, advocating passionately and tir elessly for LGBTQ+13
equality and earning recognition as one of Georgia's Most Influential Leaders in 2020; and14

WHEREAS, Dr. James Matthew Garrett was honored with Ashburn's K ey to the City and15
the proclamation of "Matt Garrett Day" in recognition of his contributions to his community16
and state; and17
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Dr. James Matthew Ga rrett will long be18
remembered for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who19
had the great fortune of knowing him.20
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that21
the members of this body honor the life and memory of Dr. James Matthew Garrett and22
express the deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.23
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized24
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the25
family of Dr. James Matthew Garrett.26
