A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and memory of Sam R. Mayhan; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2
with the passing of Sam R. Mayhan on January 30, 2026; and3
WHEREAS, Sam R. Mayhan was born on December 26, 1932, and lived a life marked by4
courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment to those he loved; and5
WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and l iberty with the United6
States Army and Navy, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans; and7
WHEREAS, from June 13, 1950, through December 4, 1957, Sam serv ed in the United8
States Army, where he served as an Infantryman and achieved the rank of Corporal; and9
WHEREAS, following his Army service, he continued his dedication to the nation by joining10
the United States Navy from September 19, 1958, to July 1, 1971, ultimately earning the rank11
of Radioman First Class (RM1); and 12

WHEREAS, Sam was a veteran of the Korean Conflict Era, Peacetime, and the Vietnam Era;13
and14
WHEREAS, his distinguished career took him across the globe, in cluding assignments in15
Korea, Germany, the Philippines, Cuba, Japan, and Vietnam; and16
WHEREAS, a man of abiding faith, Sam was an active member of his church and was deeply17
committed to his family; and18
WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern19
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his20
family and friends were admired by others; and21
WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation22
for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he23
made this world a better place in which to live; and24
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Sam R. Mayhan will long be remembered25
for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who had the great26
fortune of knowing him.27
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that28
the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory o f Sam R. Mayhan and29
express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.30

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the32
family of Sam R. Mayhan.33
