26 LC 129 1002 House Resolution 1336 By: Representatives Schofield of the 63rd, Scott of the 76th, Davis of the 87th, Gisler of the 121st, Cameron of the 1st, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing Severe Weather Preparedness Week and commending the Meteorologists in the1 public and private sectors alike for their exceptional service to the State of Georgia; and for2 other purposes.3 WHEREAS, Severe Weather Preparedness Week is observed annually in Georgia to promote4 awareness, readiness, and public safety in advance of severe we ather events that impact5 communities across the state; and6 WHEREAS, the National Weather Service - Atlanta, Georgia, headquartered in Peachtree7 City, serves as the primary source of life-saving weather forecasts, watches, warnings, and8 decision-support services for a significant portion of the State of Georgia; and9 WHEREAS, the National Weather Service - Atlanta collaborates closely with state and local10 emergency management officials, public safety agencies, broadcasters, utilities, educators,11 and community partners to ensure Georgians receive clear, consi stent, and actionable12 weather information; and13 WHEREAS, the dedicated meteorologists, hydrologists, technicians, and support staff of the14 National Weather Service - Atlanta, Broadcast Television, and state and other private/public15 H. R. 1336 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1002 sector Meteorologists work tirelessly, often under extreme and rapidly evolving conditions,16 to monitor, forecast, and communicate severe weather, including tornadoes, hurricanes,17 floods, winter storms, and extreme heat; and18 WHEREAS, accurate and timely information issued by the National Weather Service -19 Atlanta, Broadcast Television, as well as state and other private/public sector Meteorologists20 are essential to the success of Severe Weather Preparedness Week, empowering individuals,21 families, businesses, schools, and emergency management agencies to take proactive steps22 to protect life and property; and23 WHEREAS, during periods of severe weather, the professionals of the Meteorological24 Community work together to demonstrate exceptional professionalism, scientific excellence,25 and public service, often working extended hours to provide con tinuous monitoring and26 communication; and 27 WHEREAS, the work of the National Weather Service - Atlanta, Broadcast meteorologists,28 State of Georgia meteorologists and other private sector meteorologists strengthens Georgia's29 resilience, preparedness, and public safety efforts and reflect s a steadfast commitment to30 serving the people of this state.31 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that32 the members of this body commend and honor the National Weather Service - Atlanta,33 Georgia, Broadcast Television, as well as state and other private/public sector Meteorologists34 in Georgia during Severe Weather Preparedness Week for their ou tstanding service,35 dedication, and commitment to protecting the lives and well-being of Georgians.36 H. R. 1336 - 2 - 26 LC 129 1002 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized37 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to38 representatives of the National Weather Service - Atlanta, Geor gia, Broadcast Television, 39 as well as state and other private/public sector Meteorologists.40 H.
