26 LC 129 1037 Senate Resolution 760 By: Senators Echols of the 49th, Hatchett of the 50th, McLaurin of the 14th, Still of the 48th, Hufstetler of the 52nd and others A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Mordecai Wilson; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2 with the passing of former Lula City Councilman Mordecai Wilson on December 24, 2026;3 and4 WHEREAS, elected in 2000, Mordecai Wilson served on the Lula City Council for 20 years,5 and even after leaving office, he continued to attend meetings, sharing his wisdom and6 expressing optimism for the future of Lula; and7 WHEREAS, Mordecai Wilson served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with8 the United States Navy, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans during9 World War II; and 10 WHEREAS, a man of deep and abiding faith, Mordecai Wilson was a n active member of11 Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Lula; and12 S. R. 760 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1037 WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to his wife, Mary, and together the couple13 influenced the lives of countless children through their group home and care of foster14 children; and15 WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern16 for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his17 family and friends were admired by others; and18 WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation19 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he20 made this world a better place in which to live; and21 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Mordecai Wilson will long be remembered22 for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who had the great23 fortune of knowing him.24 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body25 join in honoring the life and memory of Mordecai Wilson and express their deepest and most26 sincere regret at his passing.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed28 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to the family of29 Mordecai Wilson.30 S.
