26 LC 129 1044 House Resolution 1338 By: Representatives Beckles of the 96th, Adeyina of the 110th, McClain of the 109th, Clark of the 108th, Mitchell of the 88th, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the Consulate General of India in Atlanta for their recognition1 and celebration of Black History Month; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Consulate General of India in Atlanta serves as a vital diplomatic mission3 fostering strong bilateral relations between the Republic of In dia and the United States of4 America, particularly within the Southeastern United States; and5 WHEREAS, Black History Month is observed annually in February t o honor the6 achievements, contributions, and sacrifices of African Americans throughout United States7 history and to recognize the central role of Black Americans in shaping our nation; and8 WHEREAS, the Consulate General of India in Atlanta has demonstrated exemplary cultural9 diplomacy and solidarity by formally recognizing and celebratin g Black History Month,10 thereby honoring the shared values of diversity, equality, and justice that unite the people of11 India and the United States; and12 WHEREAS, this recognition reflects the deep historical connecti o n s b e t w e e n t h e C i v i l13 Rights Movement in the United States and India's own struggle for independence and social14 H. R. 1338 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1044 justice, including the profound influence of Mahatma Gandhi's p hilosophy of nonviolent15 resistance on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and other civil rights leaders; and16 WHEREAS, the Consulate General's commitment to acknowledging Black History Month17 strengthens the cultural bonds between the Indian American comm unity and African18 American communities throughout Georgia and reinforces our shar ed commitment to19 celebrating diversity and promoting mutual understanding; and20 WHEREAS, such gestures of recognition and respect serve to buil d bridges between21 communities, foster intercultural dialogue, and demonstrate that the pursuit of equality and22 justice transcends national boundaries; and23 WHEREAS, the people of Georgia benefit greatly from the presenc e of the Consulate24 General of India in Atlanta and the vibrant Indian American com munity that contributes25 significantly to the economic, cultural, and social fabric of our state.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that27 the members of this body recognize and commend the Consulate General of India in Atlanta28 for their recognition and celebration of Black History Month and extend sincere appreciation29 for their commitment to promoting cultural understanding, diversity, and unity.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the32 Consulate General of India in Atlanta.33 H.
