26 LC 129 1055 House Resolution 1333 By: Representatives Paris of the 142nd, Herring of the 145th, Jones of the 143rd, Griffin of the 149th, and Stinson of the 150th A RESOLUTION Recognizing February 2026 as American Heart Month in Macon-Bibb County; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, the American Heart Association designated the month of February as American3 Heart Month, an annual observance which began in 1963 to ignite a wave of red across the4 country and bring greater awareness to cardiovascular health and diseases; and5 WHEREAS, women have long functioned as the heartbeat of the fam ily and home, but6 cardiovascular disease continues to be one of the greatest thre ats to overall health and7 well-being in women; and8 WHEREAS, the American Heart Association launched its signature initiative Go Red for9 Women to be a comprehensive platform designed to increase women's heart health awareness10 and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally; and11 WHEREAS, cardiovascular diseases are the number one killer of women in the United States12 and disproportionately affect African American women with nearl y 50 percent being13 diagnosed with heart disease in this country and numerous more unaware of the signs and14 symptoms of the disease; and15 H. R. 1333 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1055 WHEREAS, promoting awareness of heart disease is an important responsibility held by a16 coalition of women-led organizations representing national and international entities: The17 International Association of Ministers' Wives and Minsters' Widows, Incorporated; Women's18 Missionary Society of AME Church; Order of the Eastern Star; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority19 Incorporated; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; Zeta Ph i Beta Sorority,20 Incorporated; Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated; Jack and Jill of America,21 Incorporated; The Links, Incorporated; Les Dames Magnifique, Inc.; and Prince Hall Chapter22 Order of the Eastern Star, Jurisdiction of Georgia, all of which have joined hearts and hands23 with the American Heart Association of the Central Georgia Region to build awareness and24 education of the resources for women in Macon-Bibb County.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26 the members of this body recognize February 2026 as American Heart Month in Macon-Bibb27 County and encourage all residents to work together to improve women's health and increase28 awareness and understanding of heart disease.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized30 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the31 public and the press.32 H.
