A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and legacy of Ron Shipman; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the passing of Ron Shipman , an extraordinary2
business executive, visionary public servant, and devoted famil y man whose life's work3
reflected an unwavering commitment to leadership, service, and the advancement of4
communities throughout Middle Georgia, this state, and beyond; and5
WHEREAS, throughout a distinguished career spanning nearly four decades, Ron Shipman6
served with excellence at Georgia Power, beginning in 1984 at P lant Hatch as a nuclear7
chemistry technician and environmental specialist and rising through numerous leadership8
roles in environmental affairs, legislative and external affairs, customer service, and regional9
operations, ultimately serving as Vice President of the Southwest Region, where he oversaw10
electric service delivery to hundreds of thousands of customers across a vast multiregional11
territory; and12
WHEREAS, his leadership at Georgia Power strengthened infrastructure reliability, fostered13
economic growth, and advanced responsible environmental steward ship, earning him14
widespread respect as a thoughtful executive who balanced innov ation with community15
responsibility; and16

WHEREAS, following his distinguished tenure in the electric utility industry, he continued17
his commitment to public service through leadership in economic development and regional18
advancement, including work with industrial development initiatives and civic organizations19
that helped position Middle Georgia for sustainable growth and opportunity; and20
WHEREAS, Ron Shipman later served as Executive Director and Pre sident of the Macon21
Water Authority, becoming the first African American to hold th at role and leading with22
vision and purpose to strengthen operational excellence, build public trust, and ensure23
reliable water resources for the citizens of Bibb County and surrounding communities; and24
WHEREAS, beyond his professional accomplishments, he was deeply devoted to his beloved25
wife, Anita Shipman, whose steadfast support and partnership we re central to his life's26
journey, and together they built a legacy grounded in faith, family, service, and compassion;27
and28
WHEREAS, those who knew him best recognized that his greatest pride was found not only29
in his professional achievements but in the love he shared with his family and the example30
he set as a husband, father, mentor, and friend; and31
WHEREAS, his influence extended throughout civic and educationa l initiatives across32
Middle Georgia, where he championed collaboration, mentorship, and opportunity, leaving33
a lasting imprint on the business community, public institutions, and the lives of countless34
Georgians; and35
WHEREAS, the passing of Ron Shipman represents a profound loss to Anita Shipman, his36
family, the Macon community, the State of Georgia, and all who were touched by his37
leadership and generosity of spirit; and38

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the remarkable life of this distinguished39
Georgian be recognized by this body and that his legacy be pres erved as an enduring40
example of excellence, service, and compassion.41
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that42
the members of this body honor the life and memory of Ron Shipm an and recognize his43
extraordinary contributions to his family, Georgia Power, indus trial and economic44
development efforts, the Macon Water Authority, the business community, and the State of45
Georgia.46
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized47
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Anita48
Shipman and the Shipman family. 49
