26 LC 129 0981 House Resolution 1356 By: Representatives Fleming of the 114th, Cooper of the 45th, Paris of the 142nd, Martinez of the 111th, and Williamson of the 112th A RESOLUTION Recognizing March 8-14, 2026, as Multiple Sclerosis Awareness W eek; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, often dis abling disease of the3 central nervous system, affecting nearly 1 million people in the United States alone; and 4 5 WHEREAS, most people are diagnosed with multiple sclerosis between ages 20 and 50 and6 an estimated 10,000 children live with MS worldwide; and 7 WHEREAS, the exact cause of MS is unknown and no cure currently exists; and 8 WHEREAS, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is committed t o a world free of MS,9 raising public knowledge about the disease and elevating the voices of those affected by it;10 and11 WHEREAS, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has transformed what it means to live12 with MS and provided global leadership to speed discoveries to help achieve its vision of a13 world free of MS; and14 H. R. 1356 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0981 WHEREAS, since 1946, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has been a driving force of15 MS research, relentlessly pursuing prevention, treatments, and cures, and has invested more16 than $1 billion in groundbreaking research; and17 WHEREAS, funds raised through the National Multiple Sclerosis Society align worldwide18 resources and fuel research on pathways to MS cures; and19 WHEREAS, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society invests in the next generation of MS20 researchers through fellowships and training, leading to many breakthroughs in MS; and 21 WHEREAS, the mission of the Na tional Multiple Scl erosis Society is to cure MS while22 empowering people affected by MS to live their best lives and is one that all Americans and23 the State of Georgia should support; and 24 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia recognizes the importance of finding the cause and cures25 for MS and expresses its appreciation for the dedication that the National Multiple Sclerosis26 Society has shown toward creating a world free of MS.27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that28 the members of this body recognize March 8-14, 2026, as Multipl e Sclerosis Awareness29 Week.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the32 National Multiple Sclerosis Society.33 H.
