26 LC 129 1064 House Resolution 1361 By: Representatives Jones of the 47th, Rice of the 139th, Hilton of the 48th, and Carpenter of the 4th A RESOLUTION Recognizing February 25, 2026, as Charter Schools Day at the st ate capitol; and for other1 purposes.2 WHEREAS, Georgia's first charter school law was enacted in 1993, and there are currently3 96 charter schools operating in communities throughout the state; and4 WHEREAS, charter schools are tuition-free, public schools that have fair and open5 enrollment procedures and serve students and families in all 159 counties in Georgia; and6 WHEREAS, a recent national study of charter school performance conducted by the Center7 for Research on Education Outcomes at Stanford University found that students in charter8 schools outperformed their peers in traditional public schools by an average of 16 additional9 days of learning in reading and six additional days of learning in math; and10 WHEREAS, the members of this body commend the dedicated teachers and leaders serving11 in Georgia's charter schools and celebrate the 65,000 public sc hool students enrolled in12 charter schools throughout the state; and13 H. R. 1361 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1064 WHEREAS, additional charter school seats are needed to serve th e 21,000 students who14 currently appear on charter school wait lists in Georgia.15 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that16 the members of this body recognize February 25, 2026, as Charter Schools Day at the state17 capitol.18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized19 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the20 Georgia Charter Schools Association, the public, and the press.21 H.
