26 LC 129 0949 Senate Resolution 768 By: Senators Brass of the 6th, Payne of the 54th, Setzler of the 37th, Rhett of the 33rd, Wicks of the 34th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending the Red Star Foundation; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, the Red Star Foundation is an organization focused on fighting against military,2 veteran, and first responder suicides; and 3 WHEREAS, first responders such as police, firefighters, and EMT s face suicide rates4 significantly higher than the national average due to relentles s exposure to trauma, high5 stress, and the stigma surrounding mental health care; and6 WHEREAS, in 2025, an America's Warrior Partnership study revealed that 44 veterans die7 by suicide every day; and8 WHEREAS, more than 500 current military personnel and 500 first responders die by suicide9 annually; and10 WHEREAS, the toll of suicide extends far beyond those lost – it devastates families,11 fractures communities, and leaves countless loved ones struggling with grief; and12 S. R. 768 - 1 - 26 LC 129 0949 WHEREAS, the Red Star Foundation is committed to helping servic e members, first13 responders, veterans, and their families fight against the suicide crisis, focusing every effort,14 connection, and resource on fighting against military, veteran, and first responder suicides;15 and16 WHEREAS, the foundation mobilizes its allies, leveraging the kn owledge, skills, and17 influence of every individual and organization willing to stand up against suicide; engages18 public voices, involving every celebrity, public figure, and community leader, to amplify the19 message and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health; empowe rs the frontlines,20 providing tools, training, and peer-to-peer support for those directly impacted; and supports21 survivors, standing with families who have suffered loss, honor ing their loved ones, and22 transforming grief into purpose; and23 WHEREAS, the Red Star Foundation's innovative and compassionate programs such as the24 Red Star Family: Peer-to-Peer Network, Red Star Service Banner and Pin, Red Star Pledge25 Program, Red Star Voices, and Red Star City Program work to bui ld awareness, connect26 affected families to support networks, empower the voices of Red Star families, and ensure27 that no military personnel, veteran, or first responder feels that suicide is the only option; and28 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this extraord inary organization be29 recognized for its many good deeds rendered on behalf of the ci tizens of Georgia and the30 United States.31 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body32 recognize and commend the Red Star Foundation for its unwaverin g commitment to33 advocating for mental health and suicide prevention among veterans, military personnel, and34 first responders.35 S.
