26 LC 129 1084 House Resolution 1357 By: Representative Willis of the 55th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Kenan Thompson; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Atlanta native Kenan Thompson is an internationally kn own comedian,2 entertainer, author, and producer; and3 WHEREAS, Kenan's talents were shaped and honed in the Alliance Theatre School, the4 Atlanta Boy's Choir, community theater, plays at Hillside Inter national Chapel and Truth5 Center, the Freddie Hendricks Youth Ensemble of Atlanta, and nu merous school plays,6 including at his alma mater, Tri-Cities High School; and7 WHEREAS, he made his movie debut in D2: The Mighty Ducks in 1994, and made his TV8 debut, also in 1994, as a cast member of Nickelodeon's sketch comedy series All That, which9 led to the spinoff show Kenan and Kel, co-starring Kel Mitchell, in 1996; and10 WHEREAS, continuing his career in sketch comedy, Kenan joined t he cast of Saturday11 Night Live (SNL) in 2003; and 12 WHEREAS, now, in his 23rd season on the iconic, late-night seri es, Kenan is the13 longest-running cast member in the program's history; and14 H. R. 1357 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1084 WHEREAS, from 2017 through 2021, Kenan was nominated for six Pr imetime Emmy15 Awards for his work on both SNL and his NBC series Kenan, which he executive produced16 and starred in; and17 WHEREAS, in 2023, Kenan released his memoir, When I Was Your Age: Life Lessons,18 Funny Stories, & Questionable Parenting Advice from a Professional Clown, and last month,19 he released a delightful children's book called Unfunny Bunny; and20 WHEREAS, Kenan has contributed innumerably to the entertainment industry, and his21 remarkable accomplishments bring great pride the City of Atlanta and the State of Georgia;22 and23 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this24 distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26 the members of this body recognize and commend Kenan Thompson a nd extend the most27 sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized29 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to30 Kenan Thompson.31 H.
