HR1390: HR1390 State Government; action to protect statue of Juliette Gordon Low within the Juliette Gordon Low Building; urge

26 LC 129 1054 House Resolution 1390 By: Representatives Gilliard of the 162nd, Stephens of the 164th, Oliver of the 84th, Glaize of the 67th, and Buckner of the 137th A RESOLUTION Urging action to protect the statue of Juliette Gordon Low within the Juliette Gordon Low1 Building; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, located in Savannah, Georgia, and completed in 1986, the Juliette Gordon Low3 Federal Building/Complex was one of the very first federal faci lities in the nation to be4 named for a woman; and5 WHEREAS, the facility is named after Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouts of6 the USA; and7 WHEREAS, founded in 1912, Girl Scouts of the USA has grown to become the largest and8 most successful organization for girls in the world; and9 WHEREAS, over the past 114 years, approximately 60 million American women have been10 Girl Scouts; and 11 WHEREAS, today, 1 in 3 adult women in the United States are Girl Scout alums; and12 H. R. 1390 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1054 WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA is part of a global Girl Scouti ng and Guiding13 movement, called the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGS) spanning14 approximately 150 countries, empowering young people and promot ing peace around the15 world; and16 WHEREAS, the Juliette Gordon Low Federal Building/Complex honors the contributions17 of Juliette Gordon Low and the Girl Scouts; and 18 WHEREAS, the building contains a small statue of Juliette Gordon Low; and 19 WHEREAS, preservation of the statue within the green space created from the demolition20 of the the Juliette Gordon Low Federal Building/Complex, or its donation to the City of21 Savannah, would serve to honor, preserve, and commemorate the distinguished history of the22 Girl Scouts.23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that24 the members of this body urge action to protect the statue of Juliette Gordon Low within the25 Juliette Gordon Low Federal Building/Complex.26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized27 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the28 public and the press.29 H.
