26 LC 39 4940 House Resolution 1372 By: Representatives Seabaugh of the 34th, Jones of the 60th, Wilkerson of the 38th, Parsons of the 44th, Sanchez of the 42nd, and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing the life of Mr. John A. Williams and dedicating a bridge in his memory; and for1 other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Mr. John A. Williams was a visionary civic leader, phi lanthropist, and real3 estate developer whose leadership and investment profoundly shaped the economic, cultural,4 and infrastructure development of Cobb County, Fulton County, and the greater metropolitan5 Atlanta region; and6 WHEREAS, Mr. Williams played a pivotal role in transforming the Cumberland area into7 one of Georgia's most significant employment and commercial centers, helping to establish8 the Cumberland Community Improvement District, which has served as a model for9 public-private cooperation and infrastructure investment throughout this state; and10 WHEREAS, through his leadership and advocacy, Mr. Williams help ed secure critical11 funding for transportation and infrastructure improvements along the U.S. Route 41 corridor12 and throughout the Cumberland area, strengthening connectivity between Cobb and Fulton13 counties and enhancing regional mobility; and14 H. R. 1372 - 1 - 26 LC 39 4940 WHEREAS, Mr. Williams was instrumental in the creation and succ ess of landmark15 developments that elevated the quality of life in Cobb County, including his generous16 $10 million philanthropic contribution to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, a premier17 cultural venue that has become a cornerstone of the region's arts and economic vitality; and18 WHEREAS, he demonstrated a deep and abiding commitment to publi c service, historic19 preservation, and community investment, including efforts to preserve treasured local assets20 such as Glover Park in the City of Marietta, ensuring that growth was balanced with respect21 for history and community character; and22 WHEREAS, widely regarded as one of the most influential civic a nd business leaders in23 metro Atlanta, Mr. Williams was known for his bipartisan leader ship, forward-thinking24 approach to urban planning, and dedication to strategic infrast ructure development that25 continues to benefit Georgia's citizens and economy; and26 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished27 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a bridge in his memory.28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL29 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the bridge on U.S. Route 41/State Rout e 3 over the30 Chattahoochee River in Cobb County is dedicated as the John A. Williams Memorial Bridge.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and32 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the John A. Williams Memorial33 Bridge.34 H. R. 1372 - 2 - 26 LC 39 4940 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized35 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the36 family of Mr. John A.
