26 LC 129 1180 Senate Resolution 808 By: Senators Wicks of the 34th and Anderson of the 43rd A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Janea' Harris; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Janea' Harris is a United States Army veteran, author, survivor, advocate, and2 community leader whose life and work are rooted in service, strength, and transformation;3 and 4 WHEREAS, she served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United5 States Army, valiantly and courageously protecting her fellow Americans for six years; and6 WHEREAS, after transitioning from the military, Janea' founded ONFIYA Agency, Inc.,a7 nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering families and you th across Georgia and8 South Carolina; and9 WHEREAS, for more than a decade, ONFIYA Agency, Inc., has provi ded life-changing10 programs addressing domestic violence, homelessness, grief, foo d insecurity, and youth11 development. Through her leadership, thousands of individuals have found hope, resources,12 and the opportunity to rebuild their lives; and13 S. R. 808 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1180 WHEREAS, in addition to her nonprofit work, Janea’ is the author of The Shift Within The14 Boat, published under her pen name Janie Aadhya; and15 WHEREAS, her influence extends into education, social services, and justice advocacy, as16 she currently serves as the Vice President of the Douglas County DFCS Advisory Board and17 has partnered with organizations such as the Department of Juvenile Justice, the Department18 of Social Services, Benedict College, the University of South Carolina, Morehouse College,19 and numerous other school districts and community agencies; and20 WHEREAS, Janea's dedication to service has been recognized through numerous prestigious21 awards, including two Presidential Lifetime Achievement Awards personally signed by22 President Joe Biden; and 23 WHEREAS, she has been honored as the 2023 Author of the Year by the Black People24 United Global Network and has been featured in Voyage Atlanta, Shoutout Atlanta , and25 Voyage Ohio Hidden Gems; and26 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this extraord inary Georgian be27 appropriately honored.28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body29 recognize and commend Janea' Harris for her unwavering commitme nt to protecting and30 uplifting vulnerable families.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed32 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Janea' Harris.33 S.
