House Resolution 1406

A RESOLUTION
Honoring Brewton-Parker Christian University; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, Brewton-Parker Christian University traces its origins to 1904, when it was2
founded as Union Baptist Institute through the vision and faith of Georgia Baptist leaders3
who sought to provide Christian values-based education and who were aided in this cause4
by a magnanimous donation of land by a highly esteemed African- American and former5
slave, Warren C. Crawley, Sr.; and6
WHEREAS, Brewton-Parker for over twelve decades has continually made a positive impact7
upon its community, region, and state; and8
WHEREAS, in recent years Brewton-Parker experienced significant growth and9
revitalization, including expanded academic offerings, improved facilities, increased10
enrollment, strengthened fiscal stewardship, and measurable spiritual impact through campus11
ministries and student engagement; and12
WHEREAS, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commi ssion on Colleges13
approved the transition to university status, and effective Jul y 1, 2025, Brewton-Parker14
College officially became Brewton-Parker Christian University.15

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that16
the members of this body honor Brewton-Parker Christian Univers ity in recognition of its17
rich history, Georgia Baptist heritage, and continued commitment to Christ-centered higher18
education, as well as its service to students, churches, and communities across the State of19
Georgia.20
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives commends Dr. Steven F.21
Echols for his faithful leadership and stewardship in guiding the institution through a season22
of renewal and into its new chapter as a Christian university.23
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized24
and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to25
Brewton-Parker Christian University and to Dr. Steven F. Echols.26
