26 LC 129 1103 House Resolution 1424 By: Representatives Hugley of the 141st, Reese of the 140th, Buckner of the 137th, and Smith of the 138th A RESOLUTION Congratulating Bobby and Carolyn Wright upon being inducted int o the Chattahoochee1 Valley Sports Hall of Fame; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, husband-and-wife coaching icons Bobby Wright and Carolyn Wright will be3 inducted to the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame on February 21, 2026; and4 WHEREAS, Carolyn Wright is a trailblazer in coaching and education, and has spent more5 than 40 years shaping young athletes through leadership and discipline; and6 WHEREAS, she has spent 32 years at Central High School in Phenix City, serving as head7 girls track coach and head volleyball coach, where her teams combined for a 593-375 record,8 11 area titles, four regional championships, and four Final Four appearances; and9 WHEREAS, she also served as associate athletic director for Phenix City Schools and held10 multiple leadership roles with the Alabama High School Athletic Association; and11 WHEREAS, with nearly five decades of coaching, teaching, and leadership, Bobby Wright12 is a pillar of the Phenix City athletic community; and13 H. R. 1424 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1103 WHEREAS, for over 44 years, Bobby has coached at Central High School; and 14 WHEREAS, as assistant football coach and later defensive coordinator, he lead defenses that15 recorded 59 shutouts and held opponents to an average of 10.8 p oints per game over 2616 seasons; and 17 WHEREAS, as head basketball coach from 1989 to 2021, Wright compiled a 675-223 career18 record, winning 19 area championships, seven regional titles and advancing to seven Final19 Four appearances, including state runner-up finishes in 1999 and 2016; and20 WHEREAS, he also served as athletic director for Phenix City Schools from 1998 to 202021 and founded Bobby Wright's Fundamental Basketball Camps, mentoring youth athletes for22 three decades; and23 WHEREAS, in 2020, Bobby and Carolyn Wright were jointly inducted into the AHSAA Hall24 of Fame, recognized as Alabama's winningest husband-and-wife coaching duo; and25 WHEREAS, their induction into the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame honors not26 only championship success, but decades of shared commitment to student-athletes, schools,27 and the broader community.28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that29 the members of this body congratulate Bobby and Carolyn Wright upon being inducted into30 the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame.31 H.
