26 LC 129 1193 Senate Resolution 822 By: Senators Davenport of the 17th, Wicks of the 34th and Parent of the 44th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Dr. Anthony W. Smith; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Dr. Anthony W. Smith has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for2 the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep pe rsonal commitment to the3 welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and4 WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,5 talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced6 dramatically by his superlative service with Clayton County Public Schools; and7 WHEREAS, as Superintendent of Clayton County Public Schools, Dr. Anthony W. Smith8 leads one of the nation's top 100 largest school districts and the sixth largest school system9 in the State of Georgia; and10 WHEREAS, Dr. Anthony W. Smith is highly regarded as a dedicated leader with a11 transformative and innovative approach to education, designed to improve the educational12 experience and outcomes of all students; and13 S. R. 822 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1193 WHEREAS, Dr. Anthony W. Smith was instrumental in the re-establishment of the Clayton14 County Public Schools Foundation, which has raised millions of dollars used to support15 students by providing thousands of scholarships to graduating s eniors and sponsoring16 numerous employee initiatives; and17 WHEREAS, Dr. Anthony W. Smith further supports his community through civic and social18 activities, including being a member of the Masonic Order (Prin ce Hall) and New Hope19 Methodist Church as well as participating in the Stockbridge Jonesboro Alumni Chapter of20 Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated; and21 WHEREAS, his efficient and effective commitment to excellence h as been recognized by22 his peers through the many decorations and awards he has received, including but not limited23 to the 2015 Outstanding Servant in Educational Leadership Award from the Association of24 Christian Ministers of Clayton County, a Lifetime Achievement A ward from the Clayton25 County Chamber of Commerce, as well as being named the 2025-202 6 Superintendent to26 Watch by the National School Public Relations Association; and27 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this28 remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body30 recognize and commend Dr. Anthony W. Smith and extend their sincere best wishes for his31 continued health, happiness, and success.32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed33 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Dr. Anthony W.34 Smith.35 S.
