26 LC 39 4949 Senate Resolution 820 By: Senators Gooch of the 51st, Albers of the 56th, Echols of the 49th and Anavitarte of the 31st A RESOLUTION Recognizing Mr. Donald Lyn Seabolt and dedicating an intersecti on in his honor; and for1 other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Mr. Donald Lyn Seabolt has devoted his life to protect ing the safety and3 well-being of the citizens of Dahlonega and Lumpkin County and his decades of leadership4 and service continue to benefit the community; and5 WHEREAS, Mr. Seabolt began his distinguished career of public s ervice in 1968 as a6 guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the 25th Infantry Division of the United7 States Army, where he gained the training and discipline that s haped his lifelong8 commitment to emergency services; and9 WHEREAS, in 1972, he became the volunteer fire chief of Lumpkin County and went on to10 achieve historic milestones, including becoming the county's first paramedic during a time11 when emergency calls were still managed through local funeral homes; and12 WHEREAS, he served as civil defense director and director of th e Dahlonega-Lumpkin13 County Emergency Management Agency; and14 S. R. 820 - 1 - 26 LC 39 4949 WHEREAS, Mr. Seabolt designed and implemented Lumpkin County's emergency 9-1-115 system, ensuring that emergency assistance could be accessed quickly and reliably through16 a modern communications framework; and17 WHEREAS, his leadership and expertise extended state wide throu gh training emergency18 management professionals, serving as president of the Emergency Management Association19 of Georgia, earning his emergency management masters certificat ion, and serving on the20 State 9-1-1 Advisory Board; and21 WHEREAS, Mr. Seabolt's more than five decades of service established a lasting foundation22 of public safety and community resilience and it is abundantly fitting and proper that this23 remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recogniz ed by dedicating an24 intersection in his honor.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL26 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the intersection of State Route 9/Highway 19 and Pinetree27 Way in Lumpkin County is dedicated as the Donald Seabolt Intersection.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and29 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Donald Seabolt Intersection.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to Mr. Donald Lyn32 Seabolt and to the Department of Transportation.33 S.
