A RESOLUTION
Recognizing March 3, 2026, as Georgia Reads Day; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, Georgia Reads Day celebrates the power of community involvement in literacy2
and students across Georgia who are building lifelong literacy skills essential for academic3
success, workforce readiness, and active citizenship; and4
WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Literacy provides statewide lea dership to advance5
reading achievement and to encourage a culture of literacy the support students from early6
childhood through high school; and7
WHEREAS, Malcolm Mitchell, Super Bowl champion, author, and Georgia Reads Coach,8
appointed by the Georgia Council on Literacy, has inspired stud ents across Georgia to9
develop a love of reading and to see literacy as a pathway to o pportunity and personal10
growth; and 11
WHEREAS, students from pre-K through high school participated i n Mitchell's Share the12
Magic Foundation 2026 READBowl, a statewide and global reading challenge that13
encourages students to set goals, strengthen literacy skills, a nd demonstrate dedication,14

discipline, and enthusiasm for reading while competing with peers from across Georgia and15
around the world; and 16
WHEREAS, Georgia Reads Day recognizes and celebrates the outstanding achievements of17
Georgia's 2026 READBowl winners from elementary, middle, and hi gh school, whose18
commitment to reading exemplifies academic excellence and love of learning; and19
WHEREAS, Georgia Reads Day also honors the 2026 Georgia Reads C ommunity Award20
winners, recognizing community leaders, schools, and organizations whose work spans birth21
though adult literacy efforts and who are addressing Georgia's literacy through innovative,22
community-driven solutions.23
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body24
recognize March 3, 2026, as Georgia Reads Day, and commend the students participating in25
and winning the 2026 READBowl, Georgia Reads Coach Malcolm Mitc hell, the Georgia26
Council on Literacy, and the 2026 Georgia Reads Community Award winners for their27
outstanding contributions to advancing literacy across the State of Georgia.28
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed29
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to the Georgia30
Council on Literacy.31
