26 LC 129 1017 House Resolution 1426 By: Representatives Scott of the 76th, Burnough of the 77th, Bell of the 75th, and Davis of the 87th A RESOLUTION Recognizing and honoring Mickey Garber; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Mickey Garber is a lifelong resident of Clayton County whose life reflects2 unwavering service, community devotion, and the quiet strength of a man deeply rooted in3 the place he calls home; and4 WHEREAS, born on November 30, 1947, Mr. Garber began his education at East Clayton5 Elementary School and graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1965, where he was voted6 "Friendliest" by his classmates - an early testament to the character and kindness that would7 define his life; and8 WHEREAS, he worked on his family's egg farm until he was drafted into the United States9 Army in 1967; and10 WHEREAS, during his service from 1967 to 1969, he distinguished himself by earning the11 highest physical training score in his platoon, demonstrating e xceptional discipline and12 commitment to duty; and13 H. R. 1426 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1017 WHEREAS, after completing his military service, Mr. Garber spen t several years in Las14 Vegas, where he managed the swimming pool concession at the Cir cus Circus Hotel and15 worked as a craps dealer; and16 WHEREAS, in 1980, he returned home to Rex, Georgia, to support his parents' expanding17 nursery business, where he remained a dedicated part of the ope ration until its closing in18 2008; and19 WHEREAS, after retiring from the nursery business, Mr. Garber has continued to serve his20 community with the same spirit that has guided him throughout his life; and 21 WHEREAS, he is actively involved in neighborhood and county imp rovement efforts,22 contributing his time, energy, and leadership to the betterment of Clayton County; and 23 WHEREAS, his good deeds include, but are not limited to, ensuri ng the neighborhood24 remains litter free, beatification efforts around Amberwood Estates, generously growing and25 donating vegetables, and supporting the Oakwood Trails NHW annu al backnschool26 back2basics block party; and 27 WHEREAS, Mickey is a pillar of the community and for all his ha rd work has become28 affectionately known as the "Mayor" of Rex, Georgia; and 29 W H E R E A S , h i s s t o r y s t a n d s a s a n e x a m p l e o f t h e v a l u e s t h a t s t r engthen our state–30 dedication, humility, and a genuine desire to make one's home a better place.31 H. R. 1426 - 2 - 26 LC 129 1017 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that32 the members of this body recognize and honor Mickey Garber for a lifetime of hard work,33 honorable service, and steadfast commitment to his community.34 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized35 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to36 Mickey Garber.37 H.
