A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and legacy of George Walter Stephens; and for other purposes.1
WHEREAS, February 17, 2026, marks the 60th anniversary of the passing of George Walter2
Stephens on February 17, 1966; and3
WHEREAS, George Walter Stephens served as a guardian of this na tion's freedom and4
liberty with the United States Army, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow5
Americans from 1940 until his retirement in 1962; and 6
WHEREAS, he enlisted on November 19, 1940, and served with the 2nd Armored Division7
during World War II, serving in Sicily, Normandy, Northern Fran ce, the Ardennes, the8
Rhineland, and Central Europe; and9
WHEREAS, throughout his 22-year military career, he reenlisted multiple times and rose10
through the ranks, serving as Sergeant First Class, Technical Sergeant, and with the Military11
Police; and12
WHEREAS, he received numerous prestigious awards and recognitions during his time in13
the United States Army, including the Good Conduct Medal and th e American Defense14

Service Medal while overseas, as well as the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious15
service in 1962; and16
WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to his wife, Anna, and was blessed with six17
remarkable children, Pat, Mary, Tony, Mike, Debbie, and Johnny; and18
WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern19
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his20
family and friends were admired by others; and21
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, George Walter Stephe ns is long22
remembered for his love of family, friendship, and community and is missed by all who had23
the great fortune of knowing him.24
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body25
join in honoring the life and legacy of George Walter Stephens.26
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed27
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for di stribution to the family of28
George Walter Stephens.29
