HR1429: HR1429 Powell, Mrs. Marthelle; celebrating 95th birthday; commend

26 LC 129 9037 House Resolution 1429 By: Representatives Hatchett of the 155th and Jackson of the 128th A RESOLUTION Honoring and celebrating the 95th birthday of Mrs. Marthelle Powell; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Mrs. Marthelle Powell was born on May 24, 1931, the daughter of William H.2 and Evelle Mayo Blizzard; and3 WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, she attends New Home Baptist Church in4 Wrightsville, Georgia, where she faithfully served as the organist/pianist from the age of 125 until her retirement in 2025, an impressive span of 82 years; and6 WHEREAS, on November 16, 1947, Mrs. Powell became the bride of Roy Lynward Powell,7 and they enjoyed 67 years of marriage and were blessed with three children, Martha Lynn,8 Sharon, and Roy; and9 WHEREAS, Mrs. Powell is affectionately known as Grandma to seve n grandchildren,10 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and11 WHEREAS, she continues to enjoy gardening, flower arranging, sewing, quilting, painting,12 and making music; in the warm weather, you can usually find her working in the yard, or13 swinging on the porch swing enjoying the view of the garden; and14 H. R. 1429 - 1 - 26 LC 129 9037 WHEREAS, Mrs. Powell is a person of great strength and patience with a reputation for15 service and kindness, and by the example she has made of her life, she makes this world a16 better place in which to live, a nd it is only fitting and prope r that she be appropriately17 recognized during this very special and memorable time of her life.18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that19 the members of this body honor Mrs. Marthelle Powell for her un selfish, dedicated, and20 loving service to the members of her family and community; join in celebrating the21 remarkable occasion of her 95th birthday; and extend their most sincere best wishes for22 continued health and happiness.23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized24 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Mrs.25 Marthelle Powell.26 H.
