26 LC 129 1257 House Resolution 1449 By: Representatives Adeyina of the 110th, Adesanya of the 43rd, Okoye of the 102nd, Olaleye of the 59th, and Holly of the 116th A RESOLUTION Commending Adekunle Rasheed Okiki Adegoke, Senior Advocate of N igeria, for his1 distinguished legal service, human rights advocacy, and contrib utions to democratic2 governance; and for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, Adekunle Rasheed Okiki Adegoke, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), is an4 internationally respected legal practitioner, constitutional scholar, and human rights advocate5 whose career spans more than three decades of exemplary service to the rule of law,6 democratic governance, and social justice; and7 WHEREAS, born on September 5, 1969, in Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria, Mr. Adegoke has8 distinguished himself through academic excellence, earning a Bachelor of Laws degree with9 Second Class Upper Honors from the University of Lagos, a Barrister-at-Law qualification10 from the Nigerian Law School, and a Master of Laws degree from the University of Lagos11 with a perfect CGPA of 4.0; and12 WHEREAS, in recognition of his outstanding professional achievements and advocacy at the13 highest levels of legal practice, Mr. Adegoke was conferred wit h the prestigious rank of14 Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2020, one of the highest honors w ithin the Nigerian legal15 profession; and16 H. R. 1449 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1257 WHEREAS, Mr. Adegoke has served as Managing Partner and Principal Partner of leading17 law firms, including M. A. Banire & Associates and Kunle Adegok e & Co., providing18 strategic legal counsel in constitutional law, election litigat ion, commercial law, and19 international arbitration, including representation of a West A frican nation before the20 International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID); and21 WHEREAS, he has made enduring scholarly contributions through n umerous legal22 publications, journals, textbooks, and policy papers addressing constitutionalism, contract23 law, cyber law, judicial reform, secured credit, and democratic accountability, thereby24 shaping legal thought and practice in Nigeria and beyond; and25 WHEREAS, as a lifelong human rights advocate, Mr. Adegoke has d evoted substantial26 portions of his legal career to pro bono representation in case s involving environmental27 justice, labor rights, freedom of information, electoral integrity, and the protection of indigent28 and marginalized persons, often confronting powerful institutio ns in defense of the public29 interest; and 30 WHEREAS, Mr. Adegoke has played a significant role in the strengthening of democratic31 institutions in Nigeria by serving as counsel in numerous landmark election petitions before32 tribunals, appellate courts, and the Supreme Court of Nigeria, thereby reinforcing33 constitutional order and electoral legitimacy; and34 WHEREAS, his leadership extends beyond litigation into civic engagement, having served35 in numerous professional, academic, and civil society organizations, including the Nigerian36 Bar Association, the Internationa l Bar Association, human right s organizations, electoral37 reform committees, and socio-political development initiatives; and38 H. R. 1449 - 2 - 26 LC 129 1257 WHEREAS, through international conferences, United Nations enga gements, and global39 legal forums across Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, Mr. Adegoke40 has represented the legal profession of Nigeria with distinctio n, fostering cross-border41 dialogue on justice, governance, and the rule of law; and42 WHEREAS, the Georgia House of Representatives recognizes that t he promotion of43 democratic values, constitutional governance, and human rights is a shared global44 responsibility, and that individuals such as Adekunle Rasheed Okiki Adegoke exemplify the45 ideals of justice, integrity, and public service admired and upheld by the people of the State46 of Georgia.47 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that48 the members of this body commend Adekunle Rasheed Okiki Adegoke for his distinguished49 career in law, unwavering commitment to human rights, and outst anding contributions to50 democratic governance and legal development, and extend best wishes for continued success51 in all his professional and civic endeavors.52 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized53 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution ava ilable for distribution to54 Adekunle Rasheed Okiki Adegoke.55 H.
