26 LC 129 9034 House Resolution 1471 By: Representatives Drenner of the 85th, Franklin of the 160th, Cooper of the 45th, Hugley of the 141st, and Cannon of the 58th A RESOLUTION Recognizing July 27-Aug 2, 2026, as Fertility Awareness Week; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, having a family and nurturing the next generation is a profound human2 experience that connects us to each other and ensures our communities are able to thrive; and3 4 WHEREAS, increasingly, Georgians are struggling with infertilit y, which is a recognized5 condition affecting a substantial portion of the adult population; and 6 WHEREAS, approximately 1 in 6 people experience infertility dur ing their lifetime, a7 prevalence that spans all income levels and regions; and 8 WHEREAS, in the United States, approximately 12 percent of women and 9 percent of men9 are infertile; these figures likely underrepresent the affected population while underscoring10 that the condition affects individuals and couples across all demographics and relationship11 structures; and12 WHEREAS, the need for fertility care to build one's family arises from diverse factors and13 impacts individuals; and 14 H. R. 1471 - 1 - 26 LC 129 9034 WHEREAS, infertility di sproportionately affects some communitie s, for example, Black15 women in the United States are nearly twice as likely to experi ence infertility as16 non-Hispanic white women, and people with disabilities experience higher rates of infertility,17 often due to underlying medical conditions, medications, or prior medical interventions; and18 WHEREAS, the majority of infertility cases respond to evidence-based medical treatment;19 and 20 WHEREAS, assisted reproductive technologies, including in vitro fertilization (IVF), are21 safe and effective; and 22 WHEREAS, fertility preservation techniques, such as gamete or tissue cryopreservation, are23 recommended for individuals at risk of infertility; and 24 WHEREAS, medical associations like the American College of Obst etricians and25 Gynecologists (ACOG) recommend timely referral for fertility preservation when medical26 treatment may affect future reproductive health; and27 WHEREAS, lack of information about one's own fertility and fert ility health care options28 pose a barrier to family building for Georgians; and 29 WHEREAS, the state of Georgia unanimously passed HB 428, in 202 5, establishing that30 nothing under the law prohibits or prevents an individual from obtaining IVF in the state and31 recognizing that IVF is a safe, effective, and legal way to make the dream of having children32 possible for the many Georgians struggling to have children. 33 H. R. 1471 - 2 - 26 LC 129 9034 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that34 the members of this body recognize July 27-Aug 2, 2026, as Fertility Awareness Week. 35 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized36 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the37 public and the press.38 H.
