26 LC 129 9041 House Resolution 1459 By: Representatives Wade of the 9th and Burns of the 159th A RESOLUTION Recognizing February 26, 2026, as Dale Murphy Day; and for other purposes.1 WHEREAS, Dale Murphy spent 14 of his 18 years in major league baseball with the Atlanta2 Braves, and he is one of only 11 players in baseball history to have played in 740 consecutive3 games; and4 WHEREAS, during his illustrious career, he twice received the N ational League Most5 Valuable Player Award, was a four-time recipient of the Silver Slugger Award and a6 five-time Gold Glove Award winner, and was selected to the National League All-Star Team7 seven times; and8 WHEREAS, his career statistics include a .265 batting average w ith 2,111 hits, 398 home9 runs, and 1,266 runs batted in; and10 WHEREAS, perhaps the most idealized and beloved baseball player of the 1980s, Dale11 Murphy also earned recognition and distinction off the field fo r his consistent support of12 numerous charities in the community and for the example he set as a faithful and loving13 husband and father; and14 H. R. 1459 - 1 - 26 LC 129 9041 WHEREAS, a hero to millions of children around the nation, he s trove to live up to the15 image his fans expected of him; he was always the last player t o leave the field, making16 certain that he gave an autograph to every kid waiting to meet him; and17 WHEREAS, this distinguished gentleman has earned his well-deserved reputation for athletic18 achievement by performing with initiative and precision during his time on the baseball field;19 and20 WHEREAS, his dedication to the sport of baseball, along with his exceptional work ethic and21 competitive spirit, have earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and have given22 inspiration to many; and23 WHEREAS, in honor of his distinguished 18-year career and many wonderful24 accomplishments, the State of Georgia celebrates February 25, 2026, as Dale Murphy Day.25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that26 the members of this body recognize February 26, 2026, as Dale Murphy Day.27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized28 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the29 public and the press.30 H.
