26 LC 129 1281 Senate Resolution 837 By: Senators Kirkpatrick of the 32nd, Albers of the 56th, Summers of the 13th, Setzler of the 37th, Watson of the 1st and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing February 26, 2026, as Dale Murphy Day and urging the Major League Baseball1 Hall of Fame Committee to induct Dale Murphy into the National Baseball Hall of Fame;2 and for other purposes.3 WHEREAS, Dale Murphy spent 14 of his 18 years in major league baseball with the Atlanta4 Braves, and he is one of only 11 players in baseball history to have played in 740 consecutive5 games; and6 WHEREAS, during his illustrious career, he twice received the N ational League Most7 Valuable Player Award, was a four-time recipient of the Silver Slugger Award and a8 five-time Gold Glove Award winner, and was selected to the National League All-Star Team9 seven times; and10 WHEREAS, his career statistics include a .265 batting average w ith 2,111 hits, 398 home11 runs, and 1,266 runs batted in; and12 WHEREAS, perhaps the most idealized and beloved baseball player of the 1980s, Dale13 Murphy also earned recognition and distinction off the field fo r his consistent support of14 S. R. 837 - 1 - 26 LC 129 1281 numerous charities in the community and for the example he set as a faithful and loving15 husband and father; and16 WHEREAS, a hero to millions of children around the nation, he s trove to live up to the17 image his fans expected of him; he was always the last player t o leave the field, making18 certain that he gave an autograph to every kid waiting to meet him; and19 WHEREAS, this distinguished gentleman has earned his well-deserved reputation for athletic20 achievement by performing with initiative and precision during his time on the baseball field;21 and22 WHEREAS, his dedication to the sport of baseball, along with his exceptional work ethic and23 competitive spirit, have earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and have given24 inspiration to many; and25 WHEREAS, in honor of his distinguished 18-year career and many wonderful26 accomplishments, the State of Georgia celebrates February 26, 2026, as Dale Murphy Day.27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body28 recognize February 26, 2026, as Dale Murphy Day and urge his induction into the National29 Baseball Hall of Fame.30 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed31 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the32 press.33 S.
