HR1446: HR1446 Jim S. Briscoe Intersection; Walton County; dedicate

26 LC 39 4968 House Resolution 1446 By: Representatives Martinez of the 111th, Williamson of the 112th, and Fleming of the 114th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life of Mr. Jim S. Briscoe and dedicating an intersection in his memory; and1 for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Mr. Jim S. Briscoe has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the3 vital role that he played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the4 citizens of Walton County, Georgia; and5 WHEREAS, born in Between, Georgia, Mr. Briscoe was raised on hi s family's farm and6 graduated from Monroe High School; and7 WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty in the United States8 Navy, serving as a machinist in the engine room of a minesweeper during World War II; and 9 WHEREAS, upon completion of his service to this nation, Mr. Briscoe returned to Between10 to work on the family farm before his employment with DuPont as a maintenance electrician;11 and12 WHEREAS, Mr. Briscoe made history as the first mayor of Between with his election in13 1970; and14 H. R. 1446 - 1 - 26 LC 39 4968 WHEREAS, Mr. Briscoe served with honor and distinction as the mayor of Between and his15 vision and unyielding commitment set the standard for public service; and16 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkab le and distinguished17 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an intersection in his memory.18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL19 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the intersection of State Route 10/US-78 and New Hope20 Church Road in Walton County is dedicated as the Jim S. Briscoe Intersection.21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and22 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Jim S. Briscoe Intersection.23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized24 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution avai lable for distribution to the25 family of Mr. Jim S. Briscoe and to the Department of Transportation.26 H. R. 1446 - 2 -
